Istanbul Combi Vacuum Jetting Truck

A combi vacuum jetting truck combines a vacuum pump and a high-pressure water system on a single vehicle. The vacuum draws the liquid and waste at the end of the hose into the tank, while the pressurised water strips off the grease, sludge and sand stuck to the pipe wall so the waste can be pulled out. Because both jobs run at the same time, the blockage is cleared and the waste left in the line is taken into the tank too.

At Cantley we work with combination trucks in all 39 districts of Istanbul, on building main lines, restaurant grease connections, car park grate channels and long garden lines. When we see that a blockage cannot be solved with water alone or with vacuum alone, the crew uses both systems together. We explain over the phone which method will work before we arrive, so you know what to expect.

A combi truck is not the right choice for every job. If the pipe is broken or has shifted, the inside of the line must be seen with a camera first, and we will tell you so plainly.

When do you need a combi truck?

A combi truck helps most when an ordinary vacuum pump-out lets the blockage return quickly, or when the line is full of sludge. In jobs like these, a vacuum on its own may not be enough.

  • Main line full of sludge and grease

Slow draining on a building's main line, a smell from the cover and drain problems in several flats at once often mean a thick layer of sludge at the bottom of the line. If only the liquid is pumped out, the sludge stays on the pipe wall. Pressurised water loosens this layer and pushes it towards the manhole, so the combi crew finishes the job here.

  • Thick deposits at the bottom of the manhole

When a mix of sand, grease and paper builds up at the bottom of a manhole, pumping out only the liquid does not solve the problem, and the water rises again after a few days. On a combi truck the pressurised water loosens the deposit and the vacuum collects it from the manhole. The result is a clean manhole base and a line that flows again.

  • Hardened grease in a restaurant line

Grease from the kitchen drain hardens on the inside of the pipe over time and narrows the line after the grease trap. Simply pumping out this line can lead to another blockage within a few weeks. A combi truck strips the grease off the pipe wall and takes the waste into the tank, which helps the line stay cleaner.

  • Long garden or site line

On a long garden line with several covers, the blockage sits at a point between two covers where water collects. The crew jets the line from one cover and collects the waste by vacuum at the other. This way we can make progress in a single visit without entering the two ends of the line separately.

  • A blockage that returns every few weeks

If the same drain slows down again soon after a sink or toilet has been cleared, the problem is often not the plug itself but the build-up on the inside of the pipe. A short pump-out opens the plug for a while but does not remove the crust on the wall. For recurring problems like this, jetting the line once from start to finish with a combi truck gives a more lasting result.

  • When the location of the blockage is unknown

If you do not know exactly where the line is blocked, we first check the flow between the covers. With that information we direct the combi crew to the right end of the line. We do not jet the whole line unnecessarily before the source of the problem is clear.

Why may a vacuum alone not be enough?

A vacuum-only truck draws out the liquid and loose material in the line. The crust of grease, sludge and sand stuck to the pipe stays in place. Water flowing over it keeps the way open for a while, but as the crust grows the drain slows down again. That is why a repeat call to the same line after a few weeks is often a sign that the earlier pump-out did not clean the pipe wall.

On a combi truck the pressure jetting head moves into the line and sprays water at the blocked section, stripping the build-up off the pipe wall. The loosened material follows the slope towards the manhole or the nearest cover. If the vacuum hose is positioned at that cover, it takes the waste straight into the tank. This stops sludge from being spread along the line and into the surroundings.

A combi truck has three separate benefits. First, the line is both cleared and cleaned in one visit. Second, because the waste drawn out is collected in the tank, less waste spills into the garden or the shared area. Third, at the end of the job we can tell you the line has really emptied by what we see, the flowing water and the state of the cover, rather than by guesswork.

It is also important that you can see what is happening on site. When the crew arrives, they show you where the truck is positioned, which doors the hose passes through and which cover is being opened. When the job is done, the cover is closed again, the area is washed down and we briefly explain which points of the line were checked.

Not every blockage can be cleared with a combi truck. If the pipe is broken, its slope has been disturbed or roots have entered it, pressurised water alone will not solve the problem and the line needs to be inspected with a camera. In that case we do the inspection first, explain the findings to you with photos and decide the next step together.

How does a combi vacuum jetting job work?

Our aim is not just to clear the blockage, but to leave the surroundings looking cleaner than before when the job is done.

  1. We map out the line and the covers

By phone or on WhatsApp we talk about which drain is blocked, how many covers there are and whether the line runs through the garden or the basement. Sending photos makes it easier for us to understand the direction of the line.

  2. We position the truck at the nearest point to the cover

The combi truck, with its hose and pressure jetting line, parks at the most suitable spot closest to the cover. If a hose has to pass through a shared area, we let the management and neighbours know in advance.

  3. We draw out the existing liquid by vacuum

At the start of the job we first pump out the liquid in the line and see how full it is. This step decides where the pressure jetting will begin.

  4. We loosen the build-up with pressurised water

As the head moves towards the blockage, it strips grease, sludge and sand off the pipe wall. While the loosened waste flows towards the manhole, the vacuum hose takes it into the tank at that point.

  5. We check the line and review the cleaning together

Once the flow is back to normal, we run the line once more to make sure the water drains freely. If needed, a camera inspection is also carried out to see whether the blockage is likely to return.

  6. We carry away the waste and tidy up the area

The waste drawn out is taken in a closed tank to an authorised facility suited to its type. The cover is closed, the places where the hose passed are washed, and the area is reviewed together with you before it is handed back.

What to check before the crew arrives

  • Clear the road and parking area, and remove any temporary obstacles, so the truck can get as close as possible to the cover or the entrance.
  • Stop using water from the blocked drain. If the washing machine, dishwasher or shower keeps running, the waste builds up in the line.
  • Do not pour chemicals into the drains. The crew needs to know what is in the line, and chemical residue is a risk for the workers and makes the job harder.
  • Find the covers and move anything standing on them. Do not try to open heavy covers on your own.
  • Tell the management or neighbours in the shared areas the line passes through, and let them know in advance that the hose will cross those areas.
  • If a cover is open, keep children and pets away from it, and never go down into a manhole or a well under any circumstances.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a combi vacuum jetting truck and a standard vacuum truck?

A standard vacuum truck draws out waste with a hose, while a combi truck also washes the inside of the line with high-pressure water. This difference matters when a crust of sludge, grease or sand is left in the line. For jobs where drawing out the liquid is enough, a standard truck can be enough too, and we say so clearly over the phone.

Can a combi vacuum jetting truck clear a blocked sewer?

Yes, for blockages filled with sludge, grease and sand, a combi truck clears the line and collects the waste. If the pipe is broken or roots have entered it, pressurised water alone is not enough and the line must be inspected with a camera first.

Can a combi truck work on a long line in the garden?

We can work on long garden lines as long as the truck can reach one of the covers on the line. Which cover we run the hose and the pressure jetting line from is decided over the phone, based on access and the length of the line.

Does the pressurised water come back into the house?

When the job is done correctly, the water travels through the line and does not come back out of the drains. Before starting, the crew checks the condition of the covers and nearby drains, and tells you which drains should not be used while the line is being cleared.

Do I need a combi truck for a restaurant grease trap?

Pumping out the grease trap is often enough, but if grease has escaped into the main line and hardened, the line needs to be jetted as well. For grease build-up in a kitchen line, we plan the two jobs together and suggest a single schedule.

What waste does a combi truck collect?

A combi truck collects sewage waste, sludge, greasy waste and liquid waste such as water in a basement. The waste is taken to an authorised facility suited to its type, and it is never discharged into a street grate or the sea.

Can a combi truck enter a narrow street?

Depending on the width of the street and the height of the car park entrance, this is sometimes not possible. In that case a smaller combi truck or a mini vacuum truck that can do the same job is used. If you send a photo of the street on WhatsApp, we can tell you straight away which truck is suitable.

What should I do if I do not know the cause of the blockage?

First describe the symptoms over the phone: which drain has slowed down, where the smell is coming from and whether more than one drain is affected. With that information we decide whether the combi crew is needed or whether the camera should come first.
