We start by working out the type and diameter of the pipe, because a plastic PVC drain pipe, a rusted cast iron stack and a corrugated line in the garden each react differently to the same blockage. Once we have seen inside the pipe with a camera on site and found where the blockage sits, we choose the machine and the head to suit it. Chemical drain openers are a common mistake, because they do not dissolve a rust crust and can corrode weakened metal.

In many of the older apartment buildings around Nişantaşı, Kurtuluş and Feriköy, the waste water stack is still made of cast iron. The stacks often run down through a light well or an air gap, while the flat connections may have been converted to PVC later on. Blockages most often start at the joints where cast iron meets PVC.
