Maltepe Pipe Unclogging

In a small workshop in an old Maltepe building, a rusted cast-iron stack lets a blockage grow slowly. Because of urban renewal in Maltepe, new buildings are going up next to old apartment blocks. In neighbourhoods close to the coast such as Küçükyalı and Altayçeşme, when a new building's outlet pipe is connected to an old line, the joint can be left with a level difference or a crack. Once the blockage is cleared at these points, it blocks again in the same place. With a camera inspection we film the joint and work out whether the problem is in the building or in the garden line.

North of the E-5, around İdealtepe, Cevizli and Zümrütevler, medium-rise blocks stand close together. When kitchen and bathroom drains are connected to a shared stack, an overflow in the flat below most often comes from grease built up in a bend. If there is a bakery or restaurant on the ground floor along the main street, the grease load grows even more. In buildings with a basement, when water backs up after heavy rain, we first need to clear the foot of the stack and the building outlet, and then inspect the basement floor drain.
