Zeytinburnu Kitchen Sink Unclogging

The most common answer to why water drains slowly from a kitchen sink is grease, and kitchen sink unclogging in Zeytinburnu targets that layer of grease along the length of the pipe. In a kitchen, grease usually builds up not in one go but a little thicker with every load of washing-up water. That is why opening the trap is generally not enough, and the blockage can also sit in the horizontal pipes inside the wall.

Besides standing water in the sink, grey water rising at the machine drain or a sour smell coming from the sink can also be signs of the same line. At Cantley, before we start we inspect the trap under the sink and the machine connection, and explain where the blockage begins. If the line is greasy, a path is first opened with a drain snake, then robotic heads scrape the layer off the pipe wall, and the line is flushed with pressurised water as far as the shared stack. After the work, the line is checked with a camera to see whether it is clean.

Kitchen drain lines in Zeytinburnu's attached and newer buildings

In the attached-row buildings of Merkezefendi and Seyitnizam, a ground-floor flat connects its kitchen drain to the shared stack through a short horizontal run, and grease build-up shows itself in that horizontal section. In a detached house or one with a garden, the drain runs through the garden to the connection in the street, so the blockage may be on this long run rather than inside the building. In such a house, the camera footage makes clear where the water rising at the bottom of the sink is coming from.

The newer housing complexes around Kazlıçeşme and Telsiz present a different picture too. When the kitchen drains in a complex are gathered into a shared stack, grease poured away in one flat can soon show up in the sink of a neighbour on a lower floor. In renovated buildings, the shared sections connected to the old street line can get blocked in the early period by construction debris and grease.

Frequently asked questions

Why does water drain slowly from the sink in Zeytinburnu, and can this be a kitchen drain blockage?

Yes. If it improves briefly when you run hot water and then slows down again, the grease layer has not melted, it has only softened and moved further along the pipe. In that case, cleaning the trap only opens the section in front of it.

What should I do if water rises in my neighbour's sink?

In this case the problem is most likely in the shared stack or the shared line, and opening a single flat's trap is not a solution. If you see greasy water in your neighbour's kitchen while you are using your sink, you should report it to building management. Inspecting the line by camera together with management makes clear which section the work needs to be done on.

Does pouring chemical drain opener into the kitchen drain work?

A chemical drain opener usually affects only part of the grease layer and does not strip off the layer built up along the pipe. Pouring the product in repeatedly or using different chemicals one on top of another carries a risk of splashing and of damaging the pipe. Running lukewarm tap water into the sink instead can soften the grease temporarily, but the line needs to be cleaned for a lasting solution.
